How Start Here Works
The Agenda: A Valuable Resource
The agenda is a valuable resource for you to refer to over the next five weeks. It tells you what to expect each week and includes links to some of the information covered in class, studio resources, and recommendations from our staff. It even contains the weekly quiz questions if you want a sneak peek. Click here to view the agenda.
Classes Start at 6:30
Start Here classes begin in the classroom at 6:30. The Mud Lily studio doors open at 6pm, but your instructor will be busy getting other groups going before meeting up with you in the classroom. If you come to the studio before 6pm, check the chalkboard for tasks that can be completed beforehand, and keep in mind that your instructor will have limited availability until 6:30. Click here for current business hours.
Missing Class
Weeks build on each other. If you miss a week, you won’t be able to make up that session by rescheduling or asking for a review. You’ll just miss out on the info that was discussed However, you can check your agenda for what you missed.
Clay, Glaze, Tools
You’ll be provided with enough clay to complete the projects for our time together. Anytime you buy extra clay to use, you’ll bring your clay home at the end of class and back the following week, but you cannot bring work in progress (AKA WIP) home to work on and then bring it back to Mud Lily to complete/fire—this is to protect our equipment. If you run out of clay, you can purchase more. You must use our clay at all times at Mud Lily and must use our glazes while you’re completing Start Here. Our tools are always available for you to use at the studio.
Next Steps and a Special Offer
On week 5, we’ll share a special offer with you—a one-time opportunity to purchase 6 follow-on sessions for the price of 5. You can use those sessions for independent studio time, which is available weekdays, weeknights, and weekends, and/or for Monday night Guided Practice. Click here for info on Guided Practice sessions. You must be in attendance week 5 to receive the discounted offer, but you can always buy 5-packs or individual sessions once you have completed Start Here.
Don’t Forget to Pick Up Your Completed Pottery
We hope you’ll continue making at Mud Lily, but if you decide to move on after week 5 of Start Here, please check the firing schedule and make a note to come back and pick up your completed ware after your work is complete. Note: add 24 hours to the firing date before picking up, so that the kiln has time to cool and be unloaded. The studio is only open for pickups during regular business hours.
